Aukey EP-N5 Short Review

True Wireless Earbuds

I recently bought myself a pair of true wireless headphones after my old pair decided to have a battery life measured in minutes rather than hours. I was looking around and found a pair of Aukey EP-N5’s available at £13.99 delivered from UK supplier 7dayshop and a quick google revealed they were fairly well regarded, albeit a few years old. Bearing in mind that my headphones do get a lot of use when I’m out and about they seemed we worth a gamble – especially at the bargain price!

I received the headphones in under 48 hours from ordering – again service was top notch and opened up the package excited to give them a go! Plugged them in to charge and was pleased to find they use a nice standard USB-C connector like nearly everything I own and left them to charge which first time took about an hour.

Nice green led’s to illuminate charge status, not too bright but good enough to view on a sunny day. The headphones themselves are then charged in the charging case and are ready to go. I changed out the medium tips/buds that were on the phones for the largest ones to suit my ears, which took all of a couple of minutes and was pleased to see that 3 pairs of tips/buds were present, along with manuals and documentation and a short but useful USB-A to USB-C charging cable. Then I removed them from the case, paired them to my trusty old Samsung Galaxy 20FE and then put them back in the case as I needed to finish some work. But wait – I was due to go out later that day anyway – so time to play was only a couple of hours later!

So in the afternoon sun I ventured outside and popped them in my ears. Straight away the sound was pleasant enough yet bass shy so I adjusted them and was very pleased with the outcome. Volume nice, loud without distortion, stereo separation great, and the sound was pleasantly balanced from bass to treble! So far so good – I then tried the controls, bit fiddly but I am pleased to say that a week later and I have mastered them. I personally have the noise cancelling off as I find at least I can hear things whilst I am walking, but the cancellation works ok, keeps out most of the background clutter but does reduce the sound quality a tad. Overall I am pleasantly surprised by the quality here for £14 far exceeds what I was expecting and I can thoroughly recommend these phones at the current price!
